Singapore American School

Singapore American School (SAS) is reimagining its campus to create a future-ready learning environment that supports evolving educational models centred on collaboration, flexibility and student-centred learning. As one of Singapore’s largest international school campuses, the redevelopment transforms the campus into a vibrant and connected environment where learning extends beyond the classroom, integrating academic, recreational and social spaces to enrich the overall educational experience.

Appointed as the local Executive Architect and Lead Consultant leading the multidisciplinary consultant team, CPG Consultants works closely with Fielding International (Education Design Specialist) to translate the educational vision and master plan developed by SAS and Fielding International into a coordinated campus design. Building on this framework, CPG oversees the design development, multidisciplinary coordination and delivery of new academic buildings, shared facilities and enhanced outdoor spaces, ensuring that the campus meets local regulatory requirements while supporting the school’s long-term growth and evolving educational needs.

Guided by six core design principles—Flexible, Functional, Scalable, Modular, Sustainable and Smart—the campus encourages collaboration, creativity and wellbeing through adaptable learning communities, seamless indoor-outdoor connections and technology-enabled environments. CPG’s design integrates outdoor learning spaces, landscaped courtyards and stronger connections to the surrounding natural environment, creating a holistic campus experience that supports experiential learning while strengthening the sense of community.

Completed in 2025, Phase 1 comprises the new seven-storey Elementary School, Apex Extension, Perch Dining, a 50m swimming pool and two grandstands. Upon full completion, the redevelopment will deliver more than 128,000m² of educational facilities across the 14.4-hectare campus, setting a new benchmark for innovative and sustainable international school design in Singapore.

Key Features

The master plan envisions a phased renewal of the entire campus in alignment with SAS 2020 and its future needs. Each division is thoughtfully redesigned to provide spaces and connections that foster student-centred, project-based learning in line with SAS’s pedagogy. All academic buildings, athletic facilities, and parking are planned such that they can be accommodated within the dense site, without the need to relocate students to temporary facilities during construction.

The plan also re-envisions the campus as one that strengthens students’ connection to the outdoors and the natural environment. It begins with enhanced links to the catchment forest, serving as a dynamic living laboratory, and extends to a variety of outdoor learning spaces—both large and small—that are accessible from every building and on every level.

Phase 1 was completed in 2025 and features the new seven-storey Elementary School as well as new shared facilities such as the Apex Extension, Perch Dining, 50m swimming pool and two grandstands.
