ABC Waters Kallang River (Bishan - Braddell)
CPG was engaged by national water agency PUB to increase the drainage capacity of the Kallang River and integrate a cycling ramp, as part of the nation’s effort to improve first-and-last-mile connectivity and encourage a greener commute. The circular cycling ramp, which gives cyclists a panoramic view of the Kallang River, connects from Bishan to Downtown Singapore.
This project is part of PUB’s initiative to enhance the design and management of our drainage network to alleviate flood risk, within the constraints of cost effectiveness and competing land use. CPG’s multidisciplinary team designed and oversaw the upgrading of a 1.8 km stretch along Kallang River within the Eastern Catchment between Bishan Road and Braddell Road; and integrated design features aligned with PUB’s Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters Programme (ABC Waters). The drainage was widened from 24 m-27 m to 24 m-40 m at various sites, to bring about an 80% increase in drainage capacity.
